About HAF
Helsinki Analog Festival is an international festival celebrating analog and handmade practices in photography, moving image, and book arts. The festival brings together artists, researchers, and institutions working with analog processes and material-based practices.
Helsinki Analog Festival continues the legacy of the Helsinki Darkroom Festival, organized in 2022, while expanding beyond photography to include moving image and book arts. The festival highlights artistic practices that engage with materiality, craftsmanship, and embodied forms of making.
By focusing on slow, hands-on processes, Helsinki Analog Festival offers a space for reflection on the role of analog practices in contemporary culture and their potential for sustainable artistic collaboration.
About the Organiser
Helsinki Analog Festival is organized by the Finnish Darkroom Association, a non-profit organisation founded in 2016 to support and preserve analog photography in Finland. In 2026, the association celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The association promotes the knowledge and craft of darkroom printing, supports networks of individuals and organisations working in the field, and fosters international collaboration.
It has built and continues to maintain Mörk, a fully equipped professional black-and-white darkroom in Helsinki.
Curatorial Vision
Helsinki Analog Festival highlights analog and handmade practices as a deliberate counterpoint to the accelerating pace of contemporary digital culture. By foregrounding slow making, physical presence, and material engagement, the festival creates space for embodied artistic processes and collective knowledge.
At the same time, the festival reflects on the ecological and cultural implications of digitalization and industrial production. By emphasizing the value of handmade objects and material practices, Helsinki Analog Festival encourages a deeper appreciation of materiality while supporting more sustainable approaches to cultural production.
